Fossanova Abbey

A Cistercian masterpiece
nestled in the Pontine countryside.

The Abbey of Fossanova is one of the most evocative sites in the Priverno area. Built between the 12th and 13th centuries, it is one of the most important examples of Cistercian architecture in Italy. The complex retains a simple yet powerful atmosphere: stone, light, silence, and perfect proportions. Next to the abbey, the Medieval Museum chronicles the lives of the monks and the transition from ancient Privernum to the Middle Ages. The museum is housed in the former guesthouse, a place traditionally linked to the final days of St. Thomas Aquinas.
